Empowering communities

Bahamas PineWorks is building a thriving industry in the heart of an island on the mend. We are strengthening the forest and a storm-battered economy in need of support.

Sustainable economic engine restoring a forest in peril

At the heart of Bahamas PineWorks is the majestic Abaco pine forest. This 40,000-acre woodland is critical to the health of Great Abaco Island, supporting many native and endemic plant and animal species.

Great Abaco island’s pine forest, which supports a wide variety of endemic plant and animal species, was devistated by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Utilizing a modern and environmentally friendly logging alternative to traditional
harvesting methods, BPW unifies remediation and regeneration. It encourages a healthy forest by removing dead and dying trees while planting up to 100,000 new trees each year.

This enriches surrounding ecosystems, strengthening the coastal, mangrove, and marine environments. BPW’s harvesting, processing, and restoration efforts will follow internationally accepted sustainability practices, the specific provisions of Bahamian law, and an Environmental Management Plan approved by The Bahamas’ Ministry of Environment.
